Sigh, this again.
Alright, I love Sansa and definitely agree that the hate she gets is gross and misogynistic, but the idea that Sansa is more worthy than Arya because she had it worse is seriously misguided. Why do we think it’s feminist to belittle the trauma of some women in order to make others look better? Why do we compensate for Sansa hate by shitting on Arya?
Do not tell me that Sansa is in more danger than Arya. Do not. No, Arya was never beaten in front of court by the knights who were supposed to protect her. Instead she was beaten by the grown men she served while she was forced to pretend to be a servant to survive. Arya once thought knights would protect her too, remember. That was why she went to Harrenhal in the first place.
Hot pie was being silly; it wouldn’t be ghosts at Harrenhal, it would be knights. Arya could reveal herself to Lady Whent, and the knights would escort her home and keep her safe. That was what knights did; they kept you safe, especially women.
This is probably an analysis based on the television show only, but whatever, I’m getting tired of the Sansa vs Arya game, the arguments for who is in more danger or who is the “strongest” or most moral.
Don’t tell me that you have so much empathy because you understand Sansa when you can’t take the time to empathize with a nine year old because you don’t explicitly identify with her, or because you have some kind of reactionary hate for her because she’s popular.
Arya was starving on the road eating bugs. She was attacked by gold cloaks and the adults who tried to protect her died. Arya and her little friends were left to fend for themselves in the wilderness. Arya was leered at and easily could’ve been attacked in Flea Bottom. She was robbed in her sleep, after all. Arya was abused in Harrenhal with physical attacks, rape threats, and having to endure being a child slave laborer. Arya was held in the custody of Gregor Clegane where she had to watch people be chosen at random get questioned and murdered, all the while wondering when her time would come. Arya didn’t start the fight at the Crossroads, Sandor did. She could’ve easily been killed by Polliver or the Tickler or his squire who did grab her in battle. Arya was also chased by the Brave Companions after leaving Harrenhal.
I don’t have anything against articles defending Sansa, but let’s not get this shit flat out false to prove a point. Even on the show, Arya is some serious danger. The Red Keep is not the only place where someone can easily be killed. The entire Riverlands was in shambles as the result of the Lannisters’ destruction.
